Self-Driving Tech in Motorcycles

Chances are you’ve seen all the hoopla for self-driving vehicles on the road. They have already started to integrate into the roads with driver-assist technology. However, did you know that technology is advancing for self-driving motorcycles? In fact, they have recently started to introduce prototypes to the public that they have been working on creating for years.

Would you consider a self-driving motorcycle? Essentially, it would allow you to ride, while it steers, brakes, and turns for you. While you may not be on board with an autonomous motorcycle, most likely you’ve started to encounter its technology in new Harley-Davidson® models. There are countless advancements that are bringing Harley-Davidson® motorcycles to a whole new level.

Driver-assist features generally are made to assist riders when driving under harsh conditions such as wet or slick surfaces. These features include, but are not limited to:

Drag-Torque Slip Control System – prevents your rear tire from slipping while decelerating

Traction Control – prevents the rear tire from spinning during acceleration

Antilock Brake System – prevents the tires from locking up while braking

There are also major technology advancements to make using the motorcycles more convenient. The new models are equipped with a 6.5-inch Boom! Box GTS. The infotainment system can be used for music, phone features, and navigation. You can also check the upcoming traffic and weather. It has hands-free voice recognition or can be optimized with simple two finger gestures. The scratch-resistant screen can still be used with riding gloves, and in wet or dry conditions. Plus, it’s Apple CarPlay® and Bluetooth® compatible.
